The Oysterponds  School is the designated emergency shelter for Orient/Orient Pt. residents and the Greenport School is the designated emergency shelter for East Marion Residents.  We truly hope that we never need to use them, but it is always good to have a plan in place.  Experts tell us to be prepared to survive for up to 72 hours before outside help arrives.  Prepare a shelter kit to bring with you to include the following: 1) Change of clothing, rain gear, sturdy shoes, 2) Toiletries and personal items, medications, 3) Blankets or sleeping bag and pillow, 4) Identification, 5) Games, toys, books, 6) Special items for infants or elderly, 6) Non-perishable foods, 7) Sufficient water for 3 days, 8) Cell phone, flash light, extra batteries.  Thanks to the Red Cross, we have a supply of cots and blankets readily available.

Dear Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with their families. Missoula was an amazing success. The children were terrific! Guided Reading folders will go home tomorrow. Spelling activity assignments are due this week. Please make sure that your child completes three activities plus a practice test on Thursday night. Our pen pal field trip is almost here and the kids are so excited! We almost have all slips in and are organizing the lunch orders. If you would like to spend the day with us you can take the bus or meet us there. If parents want to order lunch they need to send in 6.00.

In Science, the students are anxiously waiting for the chicks to hatch. We are on Day 12! Did you know that a baby chick's legs can bend at Day 7?

In Math, the first grade will be continuing with adding two digit numbers. The second grade is finishing up measuring and is moving on to their last Module. This is on shapes and attributes. The second grade will be taking a Module 7 test on Wednesday!

Primary 2 will be starting a mini rocket unit with their buddies in Intermediate 2. They are learning about rockets and creating them on different programs on the iPads. We will be building actual rockets and blasting them off! We will let you know our blast off date as soon as possible.

If you have not done so, please return your field trip permission slips as soon as possible. Just a reminder the trip must be paid for in cash.

Have a great week!

Dear Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with their families. Guided Reading folders will go home tomorrow. Spelling activity assignments will be due this week. The students are working from a new tic, tac, toe board. This week the entire class has the same words. Please make sure that your child completes three activities plus a practice test Thursday night. Primary 1 and Primary 2 have been working hard planting all kinds of seeds in our garden! We can't wait to see them start to grow.

We should be putting our fertilized eggs into the incubator tomorrow! Primary 1 and Primary 2 are very excited about our Egg to chick unit and have started discussing what chicks need to survive. We also saw a video where we watched a chick hatch!

In Math, first grade is continuing place value and working with greater than, less than, and equal to. Second grade is working with measurement.

Our pen pal trip has been scheduled for May 31st. We will be leaving at 10:20 and meeting our pen pal friends in Mitchell Park! The permission slips went home last week. Please let us know if there are any parents who wish to either come with us on the bus or meet us there. Money for the trip needs to be sent in cash. We are eating at Brick Oven Pizza. If there are parents who wish to eat out with us they need to send in an additional $6.00.

Have a great week!
